I believe it is very important to dress comfortably during a session. When you are comfortable, you look more relaxed in your pictures. In addition, if you are being photographed with your children, you may be sitting, walking, and kneeling during a session so versatile attire is a must. Keep in mind, comfortable does not mean casual. The formality of a session is truly up to you.
When a couple or family is photographed together, I think it looks great to coordinate without “matching.” This can be done through color schemes and styles. Clothing should be simple and solid colors generally work best. Subtle patterns are fine, but keep in mind, you are the subject (not your shirt!) I love when clients accessorize with jewelry, hats, and even sentimental props. These are your going to be your pictures, displayed in your home, so make them your own. And remember to have fun with them!
